Summary of Changes from Previous Version

January 2025 - This procedure revises and replaces the Outside Professional Activities Policy (OPA Policy). The key changes include:

- Change of terminology: 'additional employment' replaces the term 'private outside professional activity' and 'University consultancy' replaces 'University outside professional activity'.

- Principles and indicators for identifying conflicts of interest are provided, rather than lists of specific types of additional employment that do or do not require approval. Employees, with their supervisor if necessary, can use these to determine whether a COI might exist and whether approval is required.

- Scope extended to include part-time staff for consistency with the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Procedure, and better protection of staff and the University from emerging and increasing risks of conflict (e.g. access to and use of personal information, foreign interference risks, etc).

- Requirement for Finance consultation on budget preparation removed for consultancies under $10,000
