Summary of Changes from Previous Version

June 2019 - all references to the 'Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Development and Industry)' position and division updated to 'Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Engagement)', to align with current structure.


November 2018 - all references to the 'Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)' position and division updated to 'Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)', to align with current structure.


This is the first version of this document to be published in the CSU Policy Library. For all intents and purposes, this version is reflective of the existing version that was published in the relevant manual (academic or administration) at the time the CSU Policy Library was launched. The document has been subjected to reformatting, including the application of a new numbering system and title.




The following information details the history of changes to the document prior to its publication via the CSU Policy Library:




27/8/2007 - “Termination” replaced by “annulment”. Sub-clause 3.3 - supervisor for level D employees is Head of School and not Dean; supervisor for research staff is Centre Director, and PVC for Centre Directors. 4b & 8 - “Academic Staff Probation Portfolio Templates” added. 4d - meeting with supervisor to confirm or revise objectives added. 4f - disciplinary procedure added. 5.1-5.2 - committee membership changed. 5.1a & 5.2e - Centre Director added. 5.3 - “at least one male and one female” replaced by “both genders represented”. 7.1-7.2 - timing of probation meetings and reviews revised. 8.1 - employee to complete probation review report. 8.2 - proforma replaced by portfolio. 8.3, 9.6 & 9.8 - continuation of probation added. 8.2, 8.5.1-8.5.2 & 9.3-9.5 - PVC added.

6/12/2007 - Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Graduate Training) replaced by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). Clause 6 - Templates A & E added; 6 month meeting replaced by 5 month meeting; DVC (Academic) responsible for approving confirmation of appointment for level A-C teaching/research and teaching/professional staff, and the DVC (Research) for level A-C research only staff; information summarised into tables. 7.1 added - contact HR for assistance if annulment is recommended. 7.2 added - submit report recommending annulment to VC for approval. Appendix 1 - flow chart of probation process for continuing academic appointments added.

1/6/2009 - Sub-clause 5.4.1 - Executive Officer will be appointed on request. 6 - FULT and EEL409 added.

6/8/2012 - Dean replaced by Executive Dean.
