'Higher Degree by Research Examinations Committee' - Membership and Terms of Reference

Section 1 - Membership

(1) Each Higher Degree by Research Examinations Committee shall comprise:

  1. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (or nominee) - Presiding Officer;
  2. relevant Associate Dean (Research) or appropriate alternate (refer clause 3);
  3. three other senior academic staff of the University, appointed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (or nominee) on the recommendation of the Associate Dean (Research), who are experienced HDR supervisors and have expertise relevant to the thesis.

(2) Right of Audience:

  1. Chair, Academic Senate
  2. co-opted registered HDR supervisors; and
  3. a Faculty administrative support staff member.

(3) Alternate member: Where the Associate Dean (Research) is a supervisor of the candidate or otherwise has a conflict of interest, an alternate senior staff member shall be appointed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) (or nominee).

Section 2 - Terms of Reference

(4) The Higher Degree by Research Examinations Committee of the Research Committee shall:

  1. manage all matters relating to the examination process of higher degree by research candidates in accordance with the Academic Regulations; and
  2. refer to the Research Committee all difficult cases, cases which could set a precedent, and cases which have implications for the Higher Degree by Research or other Academic Regulations.
