Summary of Changes from Previous Version

13/2/2025 – Editorial change to line 1 of table at clause 22 to correct process for supervisor confirmation. A copy of the procedure prior to this change is captured in the University records management system. 


January 2025 – Editorial changes; “[in development]” removed from after Academic Promotion Evidence Guide references (cl 23, 36, 60, 61 and 91); Supervisor’s “checklist” changed to supervisor’s “declaration” (cl 23); [note] after glossary entry for 40:40:20 gender representation removed and definition added to the Common Glossary.



November 2024 - The Academic Promotion Policy and Procedure have undergone a scheduled full review. and are approved under delegation A12. Key changes include:


· Referees: Independent evaluators will be replaced by nominated referees for Level B and C applicants. Independent evaluators will be renamed assessors to align with sector practices.


· Work domains (areas): Four domains are included Teaching and Scholarship of Teaching, Research and Creative Practice, Academic Practitioner (Professional), Institutional Service and Impact.


· Period under consideration: Achievements and impact under consideration for the current promotion application will be the period since the last promotion, or the last five (5) years, whichever is the shortest.


· Eligibility checklist: Applicants complete an eligibility checklist, which includes, amongst other things, holding the required qualifications (or proof of equivalency) and a satisfactory Performance Planning, Development Review (PPDR) in the previous year.


· Supervisors reports: The supervisor will fact-check the evidence and eligibility, but does not make a recommendation for or against promotion.


· Applicant feedback: Written feedback will be provided to unsuccessful applicants after verbal feedback is provided by the Chair. Successful applicants may seek verbal feedback from the Chair.
