Summary of Changes from Previous Version

February 2022 – This document has been rescinded. It is replaced by the Professional Development Procedure - Academic Employee Schemes.


March 2020 “Division of Human Resources changed to Division of People and Culture”. 


June 2015 – Extensive amendments to the Special Studies Program Policy and Procedure, as approved by the Executive Director, Human Resources.



Amendments to the Special Studies Program (SSP) Procedure include:

Clause 11: change of administration of the budget from Division of Human Resources to the Executive Deans.

Clause 12: inclusion of a limit on number of approvals in relation to available budget.

Clauses 13 and 17: change of period available for Special Studies Program (SSP) from 26 weeks to one teaching session.

Clause 19: removal of the involvement of a co-operative arrangement where others take on duties of the academic taking SSP and removal of the ability to split SSP into broken periods.

Clause 22: removal of details of Faculty augmenting a grant being no longer necessary as the Faculty now administers the budget.

Clause 24: removal of funding available to include costs of travel for partner and children.

Part H: Other Supports - removal of reference to Living Away from Home Allowance as no longer available from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
